Website Development
Open Collections Program, Harvard University Library

The Open Collections Program (OCP) of the Harvard University Library produces high-quality, topic-based collections of digitized historical materials from Harvard's vast system of libraries, archives, and museums. A clearly organized and user-friendly web presence was essential to make sure that these resources would be found and used by the Harvard community, as well as a world-wide community of learners.

Working in concert with multiple programmers and building on the initial work of OCP staff, the design lead helped to refine site for the first Open Collection, Women Working, 1800-1930, finding ways to effectively convey the variety and scope of materials available, while seamlessly integrating multiple back-end library systems. The resulting collection web site was described by a reviewer for the Association of College and Research Libraries:

"Women Working, 1800-1930, is an extensive, subject-based collection of unique and rare items that is well-designed, easily accessible, and thoroughly fascinating. In its depth, breadth, and design, which is as informative as it is educational, it is a model for other digital collections."
